Our Elite squad, which consisted of English and British title holders, travelled to the Lisbon International Open recently after months of pre-training. Unfortunately, Carla Rudkin-Guillen and Louis Naraine were unable to compete due to injury. However, they enjoyed supporting their fellow squad members, Elliott Lowman and James Arnold.
We arrived at the hotel and enjoyed our time bonding whilst chilling out around the roof top swimming pool which had great views of Lisbon, this was followed by a relaxing gym session and stretch out in preparation for the competition. After a great buffet dinner it was off to bed for an early night.
In the morning everyone was relaxed and ready for action. We arrived at the venue and prepared for business. James was first to complete his six round category and, after some great bouts using an array of techiques including some cool sweeps, he ended up claiming a well deserved silver medal.
Elliott soon demolished his whole category throwing every technique in the book, winning all six rounds without dropping a point, to become Lisbon International Open Champion. A staggering performance by any standard!
Team SEKF, proved again that Hard Working Athletes, Committed Coaching and Parent Support is the key to success. We ended up 9th on the medal table out of over fifty international federations from accross Europe....Result!
On the Sunday, we all enjoyed the great facilities of the hotel before heading back home to England. The whole weekend was a fantastic experience for both myself as a coach and for the four lucky, hard working athletes that attended.
