Collin's Hip Operation Blog

Final Update 7th December...

Hi everyone, tomorrow morning is the big day with a 7.00am arrival time at hospital, which is just as well as I am not really expecting to sleep much tonight. The pre training has gone fairly well which hopefully should aid a speedy recovery. I intend to update this blog once a week to keep everyone updated with my recovery and will change the cover photo each time.

I would like to thank all the instructors, mentors and parents who have offered their support to the SEKF in my absence, especially Sasha and Danny who have been instrumental in keeping the clubs running.

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who wished me well. I received lots of emails and texts which was very nice and enjoyed reading the comments added.

First week after my operation

Well, it's been one week since my operation and I cannot believe the speed of my recovery. I have moved on from Zimmer frame to two crutches and now one crutch. Walking is starting to look more natural, however I have been warned to take it easy which is difficult for me to adhere to especially as  I have been doing my exercises five times a day!

Week two after Op

Recovery is still going very well, I am now walking around the house without the aid of a crutch which is very encouraging. Today I completed my fourth home training session and will start at the gym on Saturday under the professional guidance of a Physiotherapist.

It has now been four weeks today since my operation. Last week I managed to train at the gym unaided a couple of times and cycle just over 6K. Unfortunately I overdid it on the bike and suffered the consequences, therefore I have rested over the last few days and used my extra energy to help around the house.

This is the end of a new beginning.

I started back teaching karate at St Luke's school on Wednesday 3rd December after being given the go ahead at my six weekly post OP check up. I received a great welcome back from the students (Doofs) and I brought in Doofy the new SEKF mascot which went down a treat....What a mad lesson!

It just leaves me to say thanks again for all the get well messages and thanks to all the instructors and mentors who helped at the clubs in my absence, as it all helped towards my swift recovery.

Well done ! Wishing you a speedy recovery- I had my new hip in february and was amazed how much better I felt every day. 12 weeks to the day and I was back water skiing- albeit very carefully! In may I managed to do the fun run in Brockenhurst with you all, through bogs and jumping streams!
Good luck, do your exercises and don't cross your legs!!!

Great positive attitude Collin. I'm having a partial knee replacement operation soon. I'll model my recovery strategy on yours and get myself a 'TPA' (Total Positive Attitude) like yours. Hope your recovery continues and doesn't have any more set backs like your recent one. All the best.
