The SEKF squad traveled to Weston-Super-Mare to compete at the WKU championships. This was the last competition of the year and expectations were high as the squad have worked hard all year, especially the students on the elite training program as they have helped to raise standards within the federation. After a good days competing I am proud to announce that the SEKF squad managed to win four Gold medals, four silver medals and two bronze medals.
The day started perfectly as Carla Rudkin- Guillen won the under 10's Kata after performing some great kata, with Ethan Stonton claiming a well deserved silver at his first competition. What a great achievement to have two SEKF students in the final.
Zak Smyth managed a great silver medal in the male under 16's black belt kata category, whilst Patchouli Phillips did well to claim a bronze in the female under 16's black belt kata category.
The kumite followed the kata and it did not take long until we won another gold medal. James Arnold dominated his category, winning all his fights in style. In the girls under 16's, Patchouli Phillips showed good form to take the SEKF to three gold medals, whilst Damla Kaya in the same category claimed a bronze. Our British champion Louis Naraine did not disappoint, winning the fourth gold for the SEKF, whilst Zak Smith claimed a well deserved silver medal. It was great to have two SEKF students competing in the final of ther same category twice in one day. The day ended very well with the under 16's boys team claiming a very well deserved silver medal after fighting some real tough teams. Well done everyone!
