After their success in Dudley, the SEKF Elite Squad were in high spirits and looking forward to competing at the prestigious weekend event, the British International Open, held in the Leicester Arena. The squad were treated to a two night stay at the Hilton Hotel, which went down a treat and added to their already positive attitude.
On the Saturday, it was Carla Rudkin-Guillen, first to compete in the 10-11yrs female Kata, as usual she did not disappoint, performing four great rounds of kata and ending up with a fantastic Silver medal, just losing in the final 3-2. Ethan Stonton and Adam Barnes were up next in the 10-11yrs male Kata, Adam Barnes performed his best kata's to date which earned him a well deserved Bronze medal. Everything came together for Ethan, all four of his kata's were performed to perfection and after a great final it was Ethan who won Gold to join the SEKF elite by becoming 'British International Champion'. What a fantastic start to the day? Three athletes, three medals. Incredible!
Young Elliot and Harrison performed well in the kumite but did not manage to medal on this occasion.
After spending a great afternoon at the hotel's health club celebrating our first day's success, we enjoyed a lovely dinner in the restaurant. It was great to see the squad so happy and bonding well together.
On sunday morning, it was James Arnold's time to compete as he was in the Cadet Kumite -70k. After some really good rounds, James ended up with a hard earned Bronze medal.
What a great weekend for the SEKF athletes.... 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals.
Thanks to Angela, Neil and Dave who all helped to make the trip such a success.
