In the continued build up to the Four Nations karate championships, the SEKF squad traveled to Essex to compete in the Essex Open. After eleven weeks of hard training the squad were more than ready and this showed in the kata. After Carla's success in the WKU she was entered in to the under 12's category to push her harder in preparation for the Four Nations. However, on this occasion after performing a good kata she managed a respectable 6th place. Alessio next up in the same category performed some outstanding kata's and managed a fantastic gold medal. Zak performed a great Unsu in the under 16's kata, the jump was perfect, and finally ended up with a well deserved silver medal. Patchouli and Damla were unfortunate in their individual kata categories. However, they made up for this in the pairs team kata by clearly winning the category and achieving our first Pairs kata gold.
In the kumite both Harrison West and Elliott Lowman fought well but were unable to medal. However, Alessio who was also in their category managed a great silver medal just losing in the final 2-1. Ryan Watkins on his first outing representing the SEKF in the under 16's fought very well and attained a bronze medal. Louis Kydd also fought well but did not manage to advance further. In the same category Louis Naraine continued his outstanding record by taking gold with a great show of both skill and positive attitude.
Well done everyone!
