The Elite squad traveled up to Glasgow last weekend to compete in the British International Open. After their intensive pre-training the squad were ready for action and looking forward to visiting Scotland. The standard of the competition was as high as expected and our squad fitted in well with the Europe elite. Cameron Downer represented the kata and managed three good katas and just missed out on a medal. It did not take long until Alessio Sebis fought his way through five rounds to finally win by 7 - 1 in the final to become the British International Champion. An Incredible performance, however Alessio was immediately called up for the open weight category and even though he was obviously tired, Alessio managed another three rounds to finally win a bronze medal as well. Well done Alessio.
Patchouli and Zak were unlucky in thier categories but both competed well. Joe Grimwood was very unlucky, just losing for bronze after a few hard rounds. Louis Naraine stamped his authority in Scotland in style winning his way to a place in the final to achieve a fantastic silver medal. Danny was last to compete and managed a well deserved bronze medal in the mens -75kilos, losing to the Spaniard who finally won the category.
Four medals out of seven squad members at such a high standard was a very pleasing result.
I would like to thank all the elite squad for thier continued effort and the parents who support our squad especially Steve Grimwood who not only managed to drive his Scooby wagon to Scotland and back, he also managed to act as SEKF photographer. Thanks everyone.
